Alicante is focusing on Golf tourism

The Province of Alicante participated with various stands on the World Travel Market in London, one of the biggest professional touristic exhibitions of the year.

British people are very important for the tourism on the Costa Blanca and that is the reason why several municipalities do their best to differ from other sun and sea destinations. Golf seems to be this year one of the magic words.

The president of the provincial government and mayor of Calpe, César Sánchez, has presented at the fair the new event “Costa Blanca-Benidorm Senior Masters” an international golf tournament which will take place in November 2018 in and around the Hotel Villa Aitana in the community of Benidorm.

According to Sánchez, this event should become a yearly repeated event that Costa Blanca would have to list as one of the golf destinations. This event shall help the tourism on the Costa Blanca to be less seasonal limited and therefore attract large numbers of holiday makers as well in the low season.

At this moment, the golf sector creates 400 million Euro and 10’000 jobs in the Province of Alicante. However, this figure can still grow according to Sánchez and he sees golf tourism together with health and cycling tourism as branches with great potential.

Sánchez also announced that the municipality of Calpe currently is studying the possibilities for their own golf course.
